Shapes Themed Day

We started off our day by playing a game with some shapes that I cut out, colored, and laminated. Emmy and Spencer both took turns being the "teacher". Emmy knew all the shapes that I gave her with the exception of the octagon and pentagon. And Spencer really surprised me with how much he knew. I was too busy playing with the kids which is why I don't have pictures of that activity.
Afterwards, we had our lunch which included a sandwich cut out in a shape of their choice. Emmy wanted a bunny...
...and Spencer had a bear. He was faster than my camera!

The kids got to help make the sugar cookies and each chose 3 different shapes to cut out. It was a bit of a mess to clean up as you can see.

After I frosted them, the kids helped with the sprinkles. Spencer had a great work and eat technique.

Emmy wouldn't eat hers until it was finished perfectly with every sprinkle in place.

The kids made a mouse out of oval shapes, glued it on the paper and colored it.

They both turned out really cute.

They also glued the shapes into the proper places on their hot air balloons, and then glued on the cotton balls for the clouds.

Emmy was very proud of her art work.

Our last activity was stamping shapes with paint. Another fun but messy activity.

My refrigerator is covered with all the kids masterpieces! I love that stuff; it makes me smile every time I walk by and see all their pictures. Yesterday I had them make a panda bear using all circles. And I also picked up a great video about shapes that they both really enjoyed watching.

Mt. Charleston

This weekend we went up to Mt. Charleston to go hiking. Our kids are the best hikers... they absolutely love it. As we were hiking up the mountain, some people on their way down asked us if we were going all the way to the top (because it was steep and we had two little kids). Yes, our kids made it to the top, no problem.

It was only a 40 min drive from our house and about 30 degrees cooler up there. It was so nice to get away from the heat.

Here the kids are looking for bears in the cave.

After we finished our hike, we ate our picnic dinner. It was a really fun trip and we will definitely be going back there soon!

Chuck E Cheese/Big Guy Bed

We took the kids to Chuck E Cheese for dinner and to play of course. After playing a ton of games, we got enough tickets for Emmy to buy a ring and Spencer a little rubber lizard. They thought that was pretty cool.

Since Spencer just turned two, we decided to convert his crib to a toddler bed. He's done really well with his new bed and sleeps "like a baby", only he's a big guy!!! We wanted to make the change before we fly to San Antonio to see Auntie Darcie so we wouldn't have to take the pack 'n play. This will be our first trip where we can actually pack light. I've been planning for weeks though and buying some great airplane toys and activities for the kids. We can't wait to see you Auntie Darcie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ethel's Chocolate Factory and Cactus Garden

The kids really enjoyed running around and playing at the cactus garden.

Emmy was always ready to pose for the camera.

Spencer could care less if we got a good photo of him or not.

I'm glad they had signs up by each cactus saying what they were because the kids really wanted to know about each one.

This was a nice little pond there that Emmy said she wanted to swim in.

Here's what a $10 apple looks like... and worth every penny too! We also sampled a few chocolates while we were at Ethel's, which were so much better than what you get in the boxes of chocolates at the grocery stores. They also had an M&M's World there and we found some really yummy "M&M's Premiums". They are white chocolate mint covered in dark chocolate; and they really do melt in your mouth!
